Yet another random sketch that's... yeah, not a 20 page essay. K seriously no more doodling for me til I write something.
Anyway this is what Stephen Maturin looks like in my head, he's creepy (slightly influenced by Paul Bettany's portrayal but shorter and darker, etc). Don't mess with his toad. :[!! And the toad is that obnoxious color because I've been watching 'Dead Like Me' ... haha.
Okay so yeah I'm a big dork so have some fabulous excerpts about Maturin from Patrick O'Brian's novels...
"I cut his throat," said Maturin, shearing through the string. Major Beck was used to bloodshed in open and in clandestine war, but his visitor's everyday, unemphatic tone struck a chill to his heart, the more so as Maturin happened to take off his spectacles at this moment, glancing at Beck with his expressionless pale eyes, the only remarkable thing about him.
Annnd a little gem from the mind of the man himself...
"My indignation against those birds was quite excessive," said Stephen inwardly. "It was no doubt caused by a sudden flow of bile, my posture exerting pressure on the ductus choledocus communis."
No really, he was glaring at some birds and then puked a lot. You should all read these books.
He's like a naturalist-spy-opium-addict-surgeon machine. How can you not love that. :]
Yup. He's pretty awesome. We're big sea-fairing story fans at my house (and do an excessive about of water related things...and boating) so... this is a fave. It's great.
I love Stephen Maturin! Are you telling me that some people don't?! XD I love all the POB books, but I havent been able to post any art yet. Wish I could be an art student! bye
"That would be locking the horse after the stable door is gone, a very foolish thing to do." This man and his dear friend Jack Aubrey are my heroes.... this is a wonderful drawing, I love it- thank you! Have you done any of the other characters from the books?
Excellent! I love your clear lines and the rough texture of the background. You've certainly nailed Maturin's character. Plus, the anecdote about his vomiting episode over the bird was priceless!
